Review: My First YesStyle Purchase

Woot. I finally received my YesStyle purchase! It took a long time, even though the shipping was UPS Express International. It got to the States 1 day after they shipped, BUT it had to go thru customs (they ship from Hong Kong) so it took a good 1 week + or so. Dank. So if you want the item soon, gotta get them ASAP. Actually, I finally contacted UPS 2 days ago because I didn't know what was going on, all they did on the online was saying that my delivery will get reschedule (this was for a whole week at least). I was getting frustrated. So pretty much my complaint about this purchase was on UPS, not on YesStyle. They did they're job right. 2 days after I asked UPS what's going on, my items arrived today! Woot.

I look like crap right now (after work) so for sure no outfit post for me, but here are the stock pictures of the 2 items I got :)

I got an oversized Cardigan (the one I got was similiar, I don't have deers on mine) and a really cute Beanie with a Bow. The Cardigan didn't look as "baggy" like the model on me (she's way more petite than me). And my skin is pretty sensitive... The website stated it's Acrylic Blend, but it feels like wool to me. I'm pretty sensitive to wool, so my arms started getting itchy. I will wash it first and give it a try. I hope it is Acrylic.

The beanie is super aDORKable on me. I look all weird in it. I'm just tired haha. The material is soft and I love that it has a slouchy look to it. It's super adorable to wear with a warm coat or sweater, esp if you have long and wavy hair.

For Your Entertainment, I made snap of a video via the VineApp of the items.

Maybe when I look presentable, I will make a decent post of me in these stuffs.

Has anyone ordered from YesStyle?

moonbeams,
Rima

disclaimer: yes, I am affiliated with YesStyle, but this post was just me sharing my items. I was not compensated for this post. I simply ordered the stuffs myself and actually decided to be affiliated to them after I did my purchase.

Things I Love Monday: January 2013

First off, I would like to share you Kid President. This kid wants to do a Pep Talk with you.

This year will be an #AWESOMEYEAR!!!! Right? RIGHT? Are you with me?!?!?!?

Gosh I needed that video! Too awesome.

Anyways, if you're an avid reader of Bolu, you may notice that I haven't done TiLM lately. Sorry, guys. I don't know what happened, but I sorta lost interest on writing up TiLM. It started with a weekly post, to a bi-weekly, and now to a monthly post.

Since starting the IR department, I live a pretty monotonous life. I work Monday to Friday, with the exception of Tuesdays off, and of course with the weekends and holidays off, and of course On-Call Week. NOW, my schedule changed to Monday TO Friday, 8 - 4.30. Yes I have banker hours now. No more days off :(

So I pretty much work Mon-Fri, go to church on Saturday, and in the weekends is where I see the Pillow. Since he's still in school (and working full time AND traveling), we pretty much want to chill during the weekends. We try our best to do some exciting stuffs, but sometimes I just want to take a nap with him. That's all, hehe. I just can't wait for the day he finishes school. Gah.

Let's Recap this Month:

  • Well, this Month, honestly, went by slow for me, at least in the beginning. The year started with me saving 2 stray dogs by my work place and finding them a home. I ended up taking them to a low-kill animal shelter, and thank God, they are both adopted. That was a weird way for me to start the year. But it made me more aware of stray dogs when I see them.
  • Every year of our relationship, the Pillow & I have a song for us at the beginning of the year. This year goes to Bon Jovi's "I'll Be There For You". He goes crazy, serenading it to me whenever it's playing in the car. Mind you, he has a really bad singing voice.
  • I started a new segment this month called Chimmy's Corner, where I talk about pets/animals. Ever since I rescued those 2 dogs, I became so passionate about animals, specifically dogs (I'm such a huge dog person). I really can't wait for my orientation at the Animal Shelter!!
  • I had bad allergies that I noticed since eating a lot of whole wheat stuff. My nose gets stuffy in the morning, my eczema goes berserk and I just can't stop sneezing. So I tried going gluten-free but that only lasted for 1 week. Hahaha... Major fail. But I'm still trying to cut down eating gluten/wheat related. I actually love eating Udi's brand of bread.
  • Another exciting moment this month was watching the Ellen Show... Even though from the Riff Raff room. Cool thing is I got guaranteed tickets for April! I seriously can not wait!
  • ANOTHER exciting moment was when I found out that New Kids on the Block along with Boyz II Men & 98 Degrees are doing a reunion tour. The Boyband Fangirl in me went CRAY. I've been playing NKOTB's Pandora playlist like mad.
  • Some time during the month, I made Lemon Bread and one thing that made my day was when my mum texted me while I was at work, saying that the bread was soooo good, I should open up a bakery. I'm more inspired to take baking classes.
  • Both the Pillow and I were sad that the Packers lost to the 49ers, and are pretty irritated to see all these Niners Bandwagon increase out of nowhere. Cheesehead till the end. I hope the Ravens win the Super Bowl.
  • I started drawing again. Well, I need to draw more!
  • Also started Cross Stitching. I'm gonna continue it after this :)
  • I got obsessed with Soursop Juice. Yum.
  • I FINALIZE MY EURO TRIP. I just need to register for my Baking Class :)))) Can't wait can't wait can't wait.
  • Took a mini getaway (even though I stayed inside the house) to Chula Vista for my cousin's baby shower. I didn't know anybody there so I ended up playing with their cats. Meanwhile, Rob was in Detroit where it was 0 degrees. Crazy. It was 70+F in Chula Vista.
  • I fell in love with Rachel Khoo & Tony Bourdain.
  • Also, I did my Revisit: 12 Things! If you did yours, please link up. If you haven't, JOIN THE PARTAY!

So far I'm starting off the year pretty awesome. Just like Kid President says, "What will you create to make the world Awesome?"

Revisit: 12 Things (link up)

Aaaannnd the month of January just passed by like a stinky fart. Super quick, huh? Crazy.

If you followed me for a while, then you probably heard/read about my 12 Things Link Up. I love making lists, and with 12 Things, I make a list of 12 things I want to accomplish for the year. Why 12? Because there are 12 months in a year, and I think that it's totally doable to accomplish 1 goal a month.

If you are new to my blog, from the bottom of my little heart, WELCOME! It's not too late to create a 12 Things list, if you want to join! Feel free to link up below so others, including me, can read your list! I would love for you to join!

For my last Revisit: 12 Things, click here.
2012 12 Things: here
For my Bucket List: here

So here are the things that I want to accomplish in 2013:

  1. Attend a Baking/Bread Class.
  2. 30 days Work-Out trial.
  3. Volunteer at an Animal Shelter
  4. Watch a live soccer game
  5. Try a new crafty skill
  6. Attend a Bucket List Concert: Bon Jovi, U2, Coldplay (can't get enough of them!), Celine Dion
  7. The Color Run in Los Angeles
  8. Make/Bake a Pie
  9. Take more pictures with my film cameras and create an album
  10. Swim with the Dolphins
  11. Medical Missionary
  12. Take a picture with Ariel, the Little Mermaid

I'm happy. Why? It's almost the end of January, and I have 6 goals already in progress! Say what??? I was planning like crazy and really happy that at least 1/2 will be accomplished by the end of April.

Aw yeah.

None accomplished per se, but at least it's PENDING.

They are goal # 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7!!!

Goal 3 & 7 will happen in February... Actually The Color Run is NEXT WEEK! I'm so excited because some of my friends and I are running together. This will be super fun :) As for the shelter, my orientation is the following after The Color Run. I can't wait. I love dogs. I'm crazy.

Goal 1 & 4 will happen in March. I already contacted the class that I want to take, still need to hear back from them. Hopefully soon :) Soccer game will be in Barcelona. Yes. I am that crazy. I will fly all the way to Spain to watch a Soccer game.

Goal 6 will happen in April. The Pillow purchased tickets to watch Bon Jovi, because it's part of OUR bucket list.

Goal 5, currently I'm Cross Stitching. I love it. I really want to finish the project soon and I will definitely will show it to you guys. It involves a bunny, hehe.

If you want to participate, feel free to link up with me.

We will do a Revisit: 12 Things at the end of each month and at the end of the year, we will throw a big huge partay for accomplishing goals. Yay.

bunny kisses,
Rima

Food Time: Chouquette

So I set my DVR for The Little Paris Kitchen: Cooking with Rachel Khoo, and there was an episode on her making these scrumptious pastry puffs.

Sweeten: Chouquettes
Savory: Gougères

After watching that, I thought, "Oh haaay it's so easaaay"... So I literally did a last minute baking sesh. This fun puffs are so easy to make, they are also so easy to eat. It's DANGEROUS. You just want to pop those in your mouth. It's great to eat them with a cup of tea.

Gougères & Chouquettes
Chouquette: with powdered sugar and chocolate chip/white chocolate chip

Gougère: shredded cheese

You really don't need to have a mixer for this. Your mixer will be a wooden spoon and your Right (or Left) Bicep. Seriously.

Chouquettes
makes: 30 - 40 puffs

What you need:
(what's in parenthesis is my "guess"- timation for the US metric system; I rounded them up because it gave me some odd numbers)
  • 170 ml of Water (3/4 cup)
  • 170 ml of Milk (3/4 cup)
  • 1 tsp Salt (add 1/2 tsp more)
  • 1 tsp Sugar (add 1/2 tsp more)
  • 100 grams of Butter (8 tbsp)
  • 170 grams of Flour (3/4 cup)
  • 2 eggs (add 1 more egg)
  • Icing Sugar for Dusting
  • Pearl Sugar/Chocolate Chip for Decor
    • Stove and Saucepan
    • Wooden Spoon
    • Pastry Bag
    • Large Mix Bowl
    • Your strongest Bicep or Your Husband's
For directions, literally watch Rachel's video. She does it so well.

Preheat your oven @ 200 C/400 F. Line your baking sheet with parchment paper.
If you don't have a piping bag, you can use 2 spoons to spoon the batter.
Bake for 25 minutes until evenly browned and rised.

As for Gougère, omit the Icing & Pearl Sugar, replace with Shredded Cheese.

It's up to you on how big your want your puffs to be. Mine turned out pretty big because of my Piping tip.

But who cares. It's just plain yummy.

Go and bake now.

Rima

What I Wore Saturday

It's raining like mad in SoCal and I was determine to wear a coat to church. But of course I still want to look cute "inside" my coat so I went cray looking thru my closet. So I came up with this outift.

Dress & belt: forever 21
cheetah stocking: forever 21
Shoes: Kimchi Blue

and I cut my hair on Friday. Best decision ever.

Keep warm (or cool) wherever you are!

Chimmy's Corner

I'm pretty sure most of you know what the 10 Commandments are from the Bible.

Then I came upon the 10 Dog Commandments. And it's beautiful.

Source
I agree with all 10.

Please read this before you mistreat a dog. Please.

This video below is from The Wildlife Aid Foundation. This poor baby fox cub got his little face stucked in to a rusty can. Seriously people, THROW YOUR TRASH AWAY AND RECYCLE! These people saved him and released him back to his home.

Now, meet Philly. This super cute Brown Pit Bull was hit by a car and was in the sidewalk for 5 hours and was IGNORED by people walking by. Then 3 LAPD officers saw him and decided to rescue him. Apparently, he's chipped and they contacted the owner. The owner said that they can't afford him anymore and told them to put him down.

*mad rima* SHAME ON YOU STUPID OWNER.

The 3 fabulous (literally they are) LAPD girls took him the the Vet ER and he had broken bones, had plastic bottles and weird stuff in his stomach and has a cast now. Poor little man.

via Rescuing Philly

Look at that sweet face. He now has 3 awesome Cop mommies and they are raising funds for his treatment. I hope he gets well soon. Gah. Love his face.

Do you want to share any animal/pet related stories? Stories of your own? Feel free to email me at bolubyrima@gmail.com :)

Reminiscing Wednesday

Ok, honestly, last night, like super late last night, I went online via my phone, trying to fall asleep and I saw the above picture and went, "WTH WTF WAAAAAAAAAAA..." And was busy texting Gaby about it.

As a girl growing up in Indonesia (read: ASIA), Boybands were HUGE in the 90s. Even the Pillow loves the Backstreet Boys and ain't no shame about it (he accompanied me when they had their This is Us tour and was literally serenading me with his awful voice to As Long As You Love Me). Anyways, I love Boybands. I was even obsessed with them. I pretty much grew up listening to BSB, Boyzone, Code Red, Westlife, Boyz II Men & NKOTB (esp early 90s), 3T, 98 Degrees, Hanson, *NSync, 5ive, O Town, 911, LFO, Take That, Ant & Dec (PJ & Duncan), AZ Yet, BBMak, Caught in the Act, Damage, Human Nature, The Moffatts... I'm literally in tears of joy.

Hence, I shall reminisce today with my favorite song from each Boyband in the Package Tour... Be prepare to reminisce some 90s Boyband Cheesy Pop. Aww yeah.

I had a HUGE HUGE HUGE crush with Joey McIntyre. Mmm... Such a baby face.

This is my FAVORITE Boyz II Men song. Ever. End of the Road is a fav too.

Gawd, back in Indo, my BFF/sister Dinda & I would go cray whenever we see Jeff. So scrumptious.

Call me a cheese head (literally, go pack go), but Boybands were my thing and will always be my thing.

But my #1 Boyband-er will always be...

Nick Carter. Look how 90s he is in that picture. That's the Nick Carter that Rima fell madly in love with back in 6th grade.

A crazy bucket list/goal in life: To take a picture with Nick Carter.

Please dear Fairy Godmother/Santa Clause/Tooth Fairy make that dream come true.

90s cheesiness,
Rima

Yay for Ellen!

Who does not LOVE Ellen DeGeneres? She's the funniest and one of the most generous famous women I've known. So when I got the phone call from WB about wanting to go to her show, even as standby, I was like, "oh heellllll yeaaaa..." I got the phone at work and I missed the first call and good thing they called back a couple of hours later and I picked it up right away.

I know my fellow girl, Gaby, is a fan as well so I asked her if she wanted to go with me. She applied to but didn't get a phone call. Anyways, when I received my tickets about 3-4 weeks ago, I got giddy.

Today was the day and we both headed to Burbank. I read a lot of tips on previous audiences on Yelp, so I came prepared. Gabz & I kinda knew that we're not gonna get in to the audience based on the ticket numbers we got (look below haha)

fyi that's not a ring that you think it is, it's my mum's ring that came from Iran. I use it now as my Promise Ring since I broke my Promise Ring from Rob. haha.
BUT at least we got to see the show via TVs in the Riff Raff room (it's a room right behind the audience, the same room with the Ellen store. You can hear the audience clapping and such). AND we both got Guaranteed Tickets for Audience for an upcoming show. We chose April 2nd. Hello Early Birthday Present for me... Now, if only the Guest can be Justin Timberlake...

If you get a chance to watch Ellen live, DO IT. The ENERGY that you get from the audience is contagious. Even in the Riff Raff room, her staffs and the rest of us danced along with the "inside" audience. Her season runs from August - May. Now if you live far and only got Standby, it's not recommended to fly and drive all the way to Burback to push your luck to try to get in to the Audience. I believe today they only took in like 20 people from Standby (From what I heard, starting number 251 and up are Standbys). Yes, you will get another Guaranteed ticket for another taping (if you live super far or out of state, that'll be hard!), but then, it's your chance. Some people will get there by 8AM (that's like SUPER rush hour in LA area) so they can get that number 251. I told Gaby that I'm not counting on getting in anyways today, knowing that I WILL get Guaranteed tickets for another taping. Like, why not. At least I get to experience both :)

Gaby's favorite Show
So anyways, we headed to Porto's where I spent $22 on PASTRIES (that place is super legit. I highly recommend). Then we head to Little Tokyo and ate at Daikokuya. Funny about this location is that there are NO To Go orders. And it's Cash only. Apparently they're knowns for their rice bowls and ramen (which was only 1 type). I opt for the Chicken & Egg Rice bowl while Gaby got the Ramen Bowl (which was BOMB).

The place is literally like a hole in a wall, it's tiny. It gets packed quickly. I really wanted the ramen but it's pork based and I don't eat pork. But I did taste the broth and it's my oh my heavy and savory. Tasty.

I love Little Tokyo because it's filled with lots of cute Japanese stores. Gosh so many Hello Kitty and Rilakkuma stuffs. Gah.

I'm super excited for April. Can't wait.

MEMOS:
  • FYI, head out to Mish and Allie's blog. Both are doing MEGA giveaways, and I'm participating in both! Click click!

2 New Favorites :)

So I just came back from San Diego, to hang out with my awesome cousin, Elaine, who had a baby shower over the weekend. I really didn't know ANYbody there besides her and her hubz, so I pretty much watched the cats and hung out with them.

This is Monkey, my favorite!
Baby Olivia's shower theme was Bohemian/Gypsy. It was cute :)
Monkey and I bonding

This is Cricket. She was saved by Elaine's Hubby before the shelter put her to sleep. She has a chronic Upper Respiratory Infection and a Mega Colon, hence they though no one wanted her and wanted to euthanize her. Thank goodness for Tim. She's the sweetest cat ever
And this is Kris, the anti-social cat. She just like to be alone. Funny.
I'm not a cat girl, but these cats are just precious.

Well, Tim & Elaine introduced me to an old love and a new love... 2 TV shows.

Let's start with the new one.

Source: griottes.fr via Vintage on Pinterest

This is Rachel Khoo. She's this really, really cute Malay-Chinese-Austrian British-Born cook who lives in Paris. Just from that, I'm so jealous of her. She's cute, she has an amazing accent, knows how to cook and LIVES IN PARIS. SUPER JEALOUS.

She has this show (I believe it's originally on BBC2) on Cooking Channel, called The Little Paris Kitchen. She has a book coming out too, that obviously I pre-ordered. What's amazing about her show is that she cooks with really, really small stove (like the one you use for camping) and bakes with a toaster oven. And she does pop-up restaurant in her own apartment. How cool is that? Also being an Art grad, she does illustration on her show of the dishes she's making. Gah, adore.

Now for an old love... Who doesn't love Anthony Bourdain? The bad-ass, wittiest, hilarious author/cook/traveler/food critic guy who was big on his old show, No Reservation.

Source: my.uarts.edu via Amanda on Pinterest

I know that No Reservation ended already (TEARSSS), but homeboy has a new show called The Layover.

The show is about how to get the best of the time you have during a Layover (between 24-36 hours) in a big city (which happens during traveling). From foods, to where to stay and places to see. Cool thing is that he has locals of the layover city giving tips about the city. Love it. In fact, I'm watching is right now. He's doing Atlanta right now.

Food and Travel. My 2 all time favorite.

moonbeams,
Rima

ps: I'm doing a giveaway with Allie. Prize: $100 giftcard to the store of the Winner's choice. Woo.

Chimmy's Corner

Have you hug your pet today?

This Stinky Butt below is the first one to greet me every time I arrive home. Once I open my door, either he greets me by barking maniacally OR we do this staring contest if he's sitting on the top of the stairs looking down on me. Once I start moving, his tails wag like crazy. Silly butt.

He was torn between 3 bones. Crazy. He ate up the left one though.
So on behalf of Chimmy being cute and sassy, I'm going to share tonight some cute and sassy dogs as well.

Meet Mishka. She's an adorable Siberian Husky who's been trained very well by her owner on talking. ADORABLE.

Then, these two cute Labradors (I think) interrupted a Turkish Soccer match by running in to the fields. I want to take them home!

Meet Gaytor. This future opera singer did a duet via Skype with another dog. Awesome.

And meet the BEST CORGI ever. Who does a dance when being fed? Gosh I want to hug this dog!

So does your pet do funny/cute stuff? Please do share!

If you want to participate in Chimmy's Corner, please contact me!

Doggy Kisses,
Rima

Friday's Letters

Dear Life... Seriously how exciting can you be? I really can not wait for March and am having anxieties and chest pains and what not just planning for my mini Euro Trip. So far, AirBnB has been my best friend on planning for accommodations (seriously, people, it's waaaay better than staying at a N-Star hotels).

Dear Debt... I hope someday soon you vanish from my life and I hope to be more content on what I have. I want to save up and just travel the world... Even when I have kids. Yes, people, it's doable.

Dear Self... Please be content in what you have so you don't get buried in debt.

Dear Friends, Families and Loved Ones... Please understand that as of this minute, I rather plan about my future travels than for my future wedding. And yes, I'm dreaming of a Destination Wedding. Come travel with me then.

Dear Work... I need a raise.

Dear Chimmy... Stop being a brat and eat your food.

Dear Eczema, Sinus Congestion and Gas Pain... Go away. Nobody Likes You.

Dear Pillow, I hope you have a safe trip to Detroit this weekend. Love you.

linking up with Ashley

Rima

Food Time: Gluten Free Blueberry Lemon Muffins

Mkay. So I'm on a mission. Let me give you an update in the world of Rima.

So I had an epiphany (always on random moments) on Monday night while watching How I Met Your Mother (btw, did anyone watched that episode?!?! The one with Lily & Ted on the rooftop? Sad and heart breaking).

I've been dealing with some allergies issue for the past who knows when. But lately I've been listening and paying attention more to my body. Recently, I've been eating more and more whole wheat grains and I have been baking with Whole Wheat flour more often... Well because it is known that increasing your whole wheat/grain intake is good for your heart, cholesterol, etc etc etc, right?

Wellllll... I've been noticing that my eczema, sinus congestion/allergies and colic/gas pain in my stomach are getting worse this past 3 weeks. I was like, "Hey... What's going on here?" So I did some research and found some correlation between eczema and wheat allergy. I was like, "OH HAAAAYYYY..." I did more research and now am reading "Wheat Belly" by William Davis. So far the book is making sense to me. I don't wanna go in depth, you can read the blog. While his main goal is about weight loss, for me is to see if I'm really allergic to wheat/gluten or not.

So, I'm going Gluten Free for 1 week to see if I'm allergic or not. I want to see if my symptoms decrease/disappear. Then I will slowly try to eat wheat products and see. I'm nervous.

And most of you know, I LOVE BREAD. If I was stranded in an island, I can survive on chocolate bread. Seriously. So I was pretty sad. It's like my health versus my mouth's desire.

Anyways, being the baker I am, I browsed around for Gluten Free stuff/recipe. I purchased The Blackbird Bakery cookbook too. So I went on a shopping spree to my local Sprouts Market (Thank God for that market. TONS of Gluten Free stuffs!) and decided to try out the Pamela's Baking & Pancake Mix.

Since my lemon tree is giving birth to lemons like nobody's business, I decided to make Blueberry Lemon Muffins, just to try the mix out. The Flour mix is interesting. It's not as smooth as regular all purpose flour. It's pretty grainy. I noticed some brown grain which is almond meal. But it doesn't have any weird odor. But overall, the muffins turned out soft and moist. Yum in my department.

Gluten Free Blueberry Lemon Muffins
makes 12

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup of butter, room temperature
  • 1 cup of brown sugar - you can use white granulated if you want
  • 2 eggs, room temperature
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract- I'm not sure if the one I have is Gluten Free
  • 1 Tbsp Lemon Juice
  • 1 Tbsp Lemon Zest
  • 1/2 Milk - I use Silk Soy Milk
  • 2 cups of Pamela's Baking & Pancake Mix
  • 2 tsp of Baking Powder - OK. I did not read the Mix but apparently it already has Baking Powder & Baking Soda in it (DUH it's a MIX, Rima! Read next time!) So you may wanna omit this... but I'm not sure how it will turn out. I was afraid I made a boo-boo, but the muffins were awesome.
  • 1 1/2 cup of Blueberries
Preheat your oven @ 375F and line up a 12 pc Muffin Tin with cupcake liners, set aside.

If you're gonna use the Baking Powder with the Flour Mix, shift those together to a medium bowl, set aside.

With an electric mixer, beat the butter and sugar until smooth & light. Add eggs, one by one, until incorporated. Add the vanilla, lemon juice & zest until mix well.

Then add flour mix to the butter, alternating with the milk.

With a spatula, fold in the blueberries. Then divide the batter on to the muffin tin and bake for 20 minutes. Once down, let it cool and voila... Gluten Free Muffins.

It was yummy straight out of the oven. I can taste the lemon, not to tangy, and it blends well with the sweetness of the brown sugar. I don't like my stuff too sweet.

I think this would be bomb if it was topped with some Brown Sugar Streusel, but I was lazy.

Any of you are on a Gluten Free diet or have problems with Wheat/Gluten?!?!? PLEASE SHARE AND HELP A SISTER OUT.

So far, I've been eating a lot of fruits and veggies, which is a good thing, no? Hehe.

moonbeams,
Rima

Repost: be my FREAKIN' Valentine Gift Exchange...

Well look what we have here... Just like the major consumerist of united states of americuhhhh... Right when it hits Jan 1, all major stores start selling Valentines stuff. Right from the gold, green, red, blue and white... now you are bombarded BAM with Red & Pink...

via
When you ask a little kid, you ask them, "what's the common shape of Valentine's Day?" He/She would answer, "A HEART!"
via
How about this "heart"?
via
Did you know that February is also known as Heart Disease Awareness Month
Did you know that Heart Disease is the No 1 killer in Women compare to all Cancers combined?
I remember back in the days that Heart Disease/Attacks are old people/old men disease... Apparently not anymore. Heart Disease is attacking younger and younger population and not only that, Women. I work in a hospital and I see often women, as young as in their 20s, are on blood pressure/heart medicines because they weren't careful with their lifestyle. Poor diet, lack of exercise, a busy lifestyle, combined with hereditary health problems (if any) can cause some serious damage to the lil old heart that's sitting right there, in the middle of your chest, pumping blood all over your body, supplying it with oxygen and nutrients.
OK I can go on and on about heart disease. I, myself, am trying my best to stay on top of my health (a on going New Years resolution). Esp me, I know the crap, I should practice it, right?

February 1st, 2013 will be the 10th year of National Wear Red Day, to provide awareness for Heart Disease, specifically to women. Go Red for Women is a great website to learn about heart disease, preventions, and such. I recommend that website!

Now, let's go back to Valentine's Day. Remember those days in Elementary School, where you pass out handmade cards and goodies to people we love? Melissa from Insert Sarcastic Remark Here and I decided to do a Valentine's Day gift exchange, titled, "be my FREAKIN valentine"!!! We're both excited and can't wait to see all of you participate. Plus, who DOESN'T love receiving goodies in the mail? I can't wait!

Now, this Gift Exchange will be a little different.  Together Melissa & I encourage that ALL PARTICIPANT in this gift exchange should donate to the American Heart Association, in order to support the AHA on fighting Heart Disease and bring MAJOR awareness to people (esp. women out there). The minimun donation is $5. Not bad, right? And it's Tax Deductible (if you care about those things!)

Here's the TIME LINE

Rediscovering an Old Love

So today I was at Michael's, looking at art supplies... Thinking, "hmmm... What new art/craft should I try..."So I went roaming around the yarn/knit/crochet aisle and was supppperrrr intimidated. I was like, "Ok no..."

For my 12 Things, I wrote that I want to try a new crafty skill... But then I walked around arts & crafts books, and saw this book, Manga For The Beginner: Kawaii. I was sold. I remember loving to draw manga characters when I was a kid. I even took a drawing class in College. I ended up walking to the Drawing aisle and got some drawing/sketching supplies. Then I purchased the book via Amazon for my Kindle App.

After reading here and there, I started doodling... I've been thinking on redrawing the Bolu logo, so this art itch will come in handy :)

I'm so glad to rediscover an old love.

Do you have an old hobby that you miss doing? Please share :)

Chimmy's Corner

I had a epiphany.

Every Friday night, after work, I like to relax in my bed and browse around the webs watching videos about dogs/animal rescues. I like to watch videos like these because they some what in a way lift my spirit up and think about how awesome God is. That there are still humane people out there.

Also, since I personally experienced a dog (or two) rescue of my own (you can read about them herehere and here), I somehow developed this increase passion on spreading the word on adopting from rescues or shelters, spay & neuter your pets, and saving animals when the opportunity comes (with of course, precautions: Your Safety Comes First!).

So I came up with a new segment that I'm going to start, starting tonight, in honor of my dog, Chimmy, called Chimmy's Corner. I will be sharing videos, sites or articles regarding pets/dogs/cats/other animals... It can be about awareness, charity, fundraising, animal foundations, etc. It can also be stories about pet(s) from cute to funny, even sad ones, or even cherishing a memory of a pet. Or maybe even about animal products such as toys, foods, attire, etc. Even recipesAnything Animal/Pet related!

I will also feature any bloggers that are interested in talking about their own pet(s) or any animal/pet related posts they want to share :) If interested please don't hesitate to email me at bolubyrima@gmail.com!

So for tonight, I would like to share a story about Buck.

via Buck called Buck needs Bucks for his Buckshot Injuries

Buck is a dog that was shot (well he had shot burns) to his face and was put in a garbage bag and was tied on to a pole to die slowly. HOW FREAKING CRUEL IS THAT? When a person found him, they called this amazing woman, Tami Augustyn, who proclaims herself as a independent animal rescuer (God bless her BIG heart), and she took this poor dog to an emergency Vet.

Buck was hypothermic, anemic, dehydrated and scared. He collapsed after he walked a couple of feet after he was removed from the garbage bag. I teared up like mad when I watched the video.

To watch the video, click here. I believe that the Year on the video is wrong, because the incident happened this year.
To read a Yahoo article about Buck, click here

Tami started a fundraise facebook page for Buck called Buck needs Bucks for his Buckshot Injuries where people can donate to cover Buck's medical expenses.

I highly recommend checking out the facebook page, and I urge to donate to save this dog.

I just can't imagine how people can be sooooo cruel. SOOOO cruel. Dogs love unconditionally. They are there for you during happy times, they are there for you during sad times. They may not talk back to you, but they are there to listen to you and smother you with kisses, knowing that everything will be fine.

According to Buck's facebook page, he had his optho surgery and is recovering now. I'm keeping him in my prayers. Speedy Recovery, Buck!

Chimmy's Kisses,
Rima

If you are interested in contributing in a post, let me know :))))

pps: Spread the word about Buck!

Ahaha... Well, I was thinking for a name that is catchy. One day, my friends and I were talking (okay mainly them) about how I should open up a bakery one day and we were thinking about names. At first I really wanted to name it Gula (meaning sugar in Indonesia), and it's pretty catchy BUT there is a cake shop named after Gula. Sad. So I thought about some other things. Then I remember Bolu. I love Bolu Cakes growing up in Indo. So my friends said it's cute, so I decided with that. I'm thinking to just shortened it to just Bolu instead, but keeping the domain as it is. We'll see.

Ah, thanks again to the 2 wonderful ladies who nominated me :)

Yes... to Style.

I just purchased a cute oversized Cardigan and a super cute beanie from YesStyle.com!!

If you haven't heard about YesStyle, it's a online retail store that mostly caters to the Asian (Hong Kong, South Korea and Japan) Fashion. Every time I browse around the site, it reminds me of those Japanese magazines that I read whenever I'm in Kinokuniya.

The prices are super reasonable and the fashion sense is just awesome. There's a mix of cute, elegant and fun in it.

I can't wait to get my items and wear it and show it to y'all :)))

bunny kisses,
Rima

disclaimer: yes, I am affiliated to YesStyle, but this was just my humble opinion about the site. I was not paid for this. Also, this is my first time purchasing from the site! Yay.

be my FREAKIN valentine: a gift exchange

Well look what we have here... Just like the major consumerist of united states of americuhhhh... Right when it hits Jan 1, all major stores start selling Valentines stuff. Right from the gold, green, red, blue and white... now you are bombarded BAM with Red & Pink...

via
When you ask a little kid, you ask them, "what's the common shape of Valentine's Day?" He/She would answer, "A HEART!"
via
How about this "heart"?

Our Song

I'm a music lover. I tend to associate a certain song with a certain somebody/memory.

And I do that with my relationships too, haha.

With the Pillow, we've been selecting our song for every New Years. So for 2013, of course we chose a song that meant something to us.

But, let's recap the songs that we've chosen in the past years of our relationship

2009 - Collide by Howie Day

2010 - I Gotta Feeling by Black Eyed Peas
via

2011 - Fix You by Coldplay

2012 - Yellow by Coldplay

Now for 2013... I'll Be There For You by Bon Jovi

I can see this as a CD compilation for us in the near future hahaha...

So any of you have favorite/special song(s) for you and your significant other? I wanna know?

OR if you're single, what is your Anthem?

Rima
