Let Me End My Night with This.

Good Night, Ladies.

Goodbye Cali

I'll be here. For one week. And dancing. With Gaby. To the soundtrack of Enchanted.

I'll miss you all.

The blog may be abandoned for a little bit (a guest post will be on tomorrow).

Things I Love Monday, week 29-30

It's Monday again and for realz, I can say that I'm ecstatic for this Monday... Why? Days closer to my vacatiooonnnn!!! Hellooo!!!

Since I'm pretty TOO excited for my Big Apple adventure (which this time will be with a good girlfriend of mine, and yes, the Pillow is not tagging along. I don't know if I should be sad or glad. Hmm), I really can not concentrate on this TiLM. Hoho.

This would be a Pictorial TiLM.
With some recaps (I'm doing this for the purpose of my own convenience that one day I would read back my TiLM and remember the awesome times I've had in my youth. Aw yea)
  • Apparently I did a link up about myself, which involves my phobia, soundtracks of my life, and such. I'm pretty cool.
  • I started a new segment. Actually 2 new segments :) This and This.
  • And yes, we will always remember about the shooting in Aurora, CO during the Dark Knight Rises showing. I still continue to remember to pray for the victims and pray for justice, so the killer can be prosecuted rightfully.
  • I'll never remember my first time getting called in for a case in the middle of the night. Really, it's sucky feeling coming back to work with only like 2.5 hours of sleep. Zombie mode all the way. Yuck. I really felt like walking with my arms out and trying to choke my co-workers.
  • I still can not get over this picture of the hawt-ness Channing Tatum

  • I'm glad I was able to spend time watching the hotness of Robert Downey Jr in Sherlock Holmes 2. Damn. I want him to be like my hawt brother. Hand in hand with ;alsdjkflasdkjf (sorry I got distracted with the above picture)... Channing.
  • I made my first Ombre Cake. It's a mini cake. And frosting a mini cake was a challenge. I didn't get a chance to get a "cut" picture of the cake since I gave it to my co-worker. But he said his mom loved it (yes! I meet Mother's Approval). One of my Korean doctors loved it too.
  • I did Ombre Nails too. Damn. I've never spend 2 hours on doing my nails. I'm too dedicated.
  • Made MUSTACHES on a stick and cupcake toppers for my sister's baby shower. Can not wait to meet Baby Adam. She had a baby shower over the weekend hosted by the grandparents. Damn. Dedication right there. The party was more like older people party. I just came there to eat  Indo food and see my Sister... oh and feel Baby Adam kicking my palm, belly style.
  • Got some cool vintage stuff. Woo.
  • Work has been crazy. I don't wanna even think about it. Good thing I'm leaving for 1 week.
  • The Pillow took me down memory lane and we did a car tour of his old campus in Cal Poly Pomona. It was cute to see his face lighten up and reminisce about his college years. Yes, he was a nerd and double majored in Chemistry and Bioengineering. We're gonna have nerdy soccer loving kids. I'm coo' with that.
  • The Pillow was being a doll and treated me with a hair cut (well that's probably the result of me bitchin all weekend about how ugly my hair was and needed a haircut badly).

Now pictorial time :)

BRB...

... As I pack for my Vacation :)
While I listen to Indonesian 90s Pop Song.
Here's one...

So cheesy yet so good.
TiLM will be back, I promise. I'm gonna make sure I'll post it tonight :)

I'm a Bang Kinda Girl

thanks to Boyfriend aka Rob aka the Pillow, he granted me with a haircut. He's so awesome.

sorry i didn't take a picture with my full hair. It's in a bun if you can see.

overall i'm happy :)

Sunday Confessions

  • I whined and whined to my boyfriend that I need a haircut. Result: A haircut courtesy of the Pillow *Score!*
  • I secretly admired the hawt bodies of the US Water Polo Team in front of the Pillow. Hot damn.
  • I ate chocolate today.
  • I can't stop smacking Rob's booty. Hahahahahaha... Sorry Boo
  • Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is a weird movie
  • But Michael Cera is always Mega Nerdy Cute
  • Instead of bringing the Bible to Church yesterday, I brought a NYC guide book. Sad.
  • I think I'm overpacking for New York. Time to decrease the load
  • The Dark Knight Rises was AWESOME. Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Robin? Hawt damn.
  • Oh and the trailer for Man of Steel looks Super Cool. Can't wait.
  • I actually punched Rob when I woke up this morning. Poor Pillow.

*sigh*

welcome to *sigh*

this is a new segment... where... I *sigh*. JK.

If you know me well (hello, Pillow!), you would probably think I complain too much. But I (self-proclaim) complain nicely. Unless you really tick my socks. No bueno, mi amigo. Pretty much this segment will be about my current complaints and rants and craziness. (Alex, in a way, your last comment inspired me to do this. Hollaaaa)

Like seriously, nobody's perfect. My blog can't be perfect. My life ain't perfect either. There's no way my blog will be all happy happy joy joy. There will be occasionally (or maybe often? no?) post about things that make me go

(o_O)  --> WTH? face

or go (v__v)  --> "daaaaaaannnnkkk" face

or go ( '__')  --> "say what" face

or go (-__-) --> "shame on you" face

you know what i mean? I realized I blog mainly for myself. To express my inner thoughts and feelings out loud (sorry, Pillow... oh you Mr. Private you) and to help me sort out my thought process (and maybe with the help of y'all readers, no?). It's like an open diary... with feedbacks. Hehe.

Yes I love doing link-ups and blog hops and such, but mainly that's not my sole purpose of blogging. I'm blogging for me. (hello, Rima... dya get it now?)

If my blog entertains you, thank you berry much. Please keep following me, please? I'll mail you a cookie.

If my blog bores you, thank you anyways. Thanks at least for poppin by and say holla.

If you're Chimichanga, please shut up. Your barking at 11:36 PM is annoying. Shut up, will ya?

If you have an emergency, please call 911

If you're my brother, please give me my $100 back. I need it. New York City needs it.

If you're my stomach, can you please shut the hell up and stay quiet through the night? Your growling annoys me. And stop giving me hunger pain #lifeofafatty

Critics, complaints, randomness or craziness? Please inquire within the comment box below.

Friday's Letters

Dear Pillow, yes, I can finally see you tomorrow. You don't know how much I miss your face... in real person. Not facetime. But in person. I get to really kiss you, not virtually kiss you. Nuff said.
Dear Goodwill, thanks for letting me get a really cool vintage jumper that I might wear to the baby shower. Awww yea.
Dear New York City, I'm gonna first give you a big hug. Like really, a big hug, when I get to see you. You don't know how much I miss you.
Dear New York City foods, be prepare to be inside my belly.
Dear Airport gods, please no delay. I want to get to NYC as soon as possible.
Dear Right Hand, please let that numbness and tingling to my thumb go away. I'm not liking it. It's really bothering me. Please tell Mr. Carpal Tunnel to like take a hike.
Dear Marshalls Store, thanks for making me broke and go crazy when I saw Free People clothing there on clearance.
Dear Evani, thanks for letting me do my first ever guest post on your blog. Hope you enjoy the recipe :)
Dear Pillow again, we really need to hit the beach this Sunday. No exceptions.
Dear Self Control, you need to get stricter on me. I must not spend anymore money in California until I'm in New York. Like for reals. I'll give you a raise if you do your job.
Dear Mother Nature, please be kind to me and Gaby when we're in NYC. But I would love to sweat all the food out I ate while I'm there. Win Some (food), Lose Some (weight).
Dear Readers, I would love to BUTTON/SPONSOR swap with you. I'm cool. Like for reals. And I don't bite.
Dear Kristen Stewart, I'm not fan of you nor Rob Pat nor the Twilight series, but damn girl you screw up big time. One, how can you cheat with the man you love? Two, seriously with a married man? Three, do you know how many diehard Team Bella-Edward fans out there are going ballistic over this? You just crushed their hopes and dreams. Poor people.
Dear Humane Society, please hire me as a volunteer? Please? PLEASE? I'll water your plants :)
Dear Readers again, thanks for reading.

Look what I got in the Mail?

So I was browsing around my blog-friend, Evani, and saw an ad for Julep. And they had a code. Promo Code. It was PENNY. And the whole box was literally, a penny.

So I received my box today, and was very excited when I opened it. Got 3 colors, named Lily (Fuchsia Creme), Sasha (Cantaloupe Melon Creme) & Charlotte (Lavender Creme). Super fun colors for Summer.

I can't wait to try them on! I even bought some make-up sponges to make some ombre effect. Would be cool to do all 3 colors. Hmm...

Anyone sign up for Monthly Boxes? Currently I'm doing this, Birchbox and Birchbox Men for the Pillow. Dangerous, people. Dangerous.

Being Thrifty

Who doesn't love a bargain? I know for sure I do. So on my way home, I decided to go to Ross to look for some stuff for my upcoming NYC trip (aka luggage). But I ended up walking away with a pair of Born Clogs for work (holla, $36.99 for a $95 shoes) and a pair of Bohemian looking sandals for $13.99. Can't beat that.

Then I thought of going to Goodwill that's down the street, thinking maybe they would have some luggages.

I ended up walking out with these instead.

A 70s/80s lookin Jumper. I don't know if it's just me, but Goodwill's price is pretty pricey. Or maybe it's just me. But anyways this jumper (which I would never thought I'd use) was $7.99. Still... you can not beat the price. Mind you my messy room and messy hair. I just got back from work. I might remove the shoulder pads though. They bug me. Definitely will be wearing these in New York.

HELLO. A Dooney & Bourke Bag. It's pretty small, but perfect for your credit cards/atm cards, some cash, and your phone. Even a small moleskin & a pen. This would be PERFECT for me while in New York. The inside is pretty beat up, but I don't care. And there's a faint yellow highlighter mark near the goose... but I don't care. WHY? It cost me $2.99. Wait!!! Handbags where 25% today (lucky me) so this was only $2.49. Hahahahaha... a D&B vintage for $2.49? STEAL! I'm gonna get my leather cleaner gel and clean this little gem ASAP.

Then this Genuine Leather snap wallet. I love the dotty skin and it holds cards, and your check book (yes, I still use a check book to pay bills. Don't hate). It's $5.99 and it was 25% off too making it $4.49. AWESOME.

So my total came up to $14.97

Mmmm hello. Can't beat that at all.

Gotta love Thrift Shopping.

Super happy. Hope you have a happy Hump Day.

Reminiscing Wednesday

Touch My Body. I know you love my curves. Give me what I deserve... Whatever.
I've never been a fan of the song... Until I saw this Awesome Korean Man singing... His style.

I believe this came around 2007 - 2008. Around the time I was finishing Nursing School. So I was stressing about my NCLEX and finding a job. I took a 3 months sabbatical after graduation and slummed all 3 months at home, broke as crap, while trying to raise a Pomeranian (insert Chimmy here). I maxed out my credit cards (which I'm still paying off, btw. Sad!) and spent all of my graduation gifts ($$$) to Chimmy.

I remember LMAO big time to this video with my brother, and we would sing it out loud to each other. The Good Ol' Days. We never do that anymore.

And just because I feel like it, I'm gonna share you this guy's other video. Click and enjoy.

Warning: Be prepared to LOL. Don't watch while drinking water. You might snort it out.

Craft Time: DIY Sea Salt Hair Mist

So it's Summer Time. Summer means Beach means Ocean means Sexy Wavy Hair. I live in SoCal where beaches are just a drive away, but being the awesome busy me, I haven't gone to the beach at all this summer! (and my boyfriend lives in Newport Beach) Blasphemy! But anyways, I love my hair after the beach aka Mermaid Hair.

via
So I browsed around for some Sea Salt Hair Mist. I've been eyeballing the Bumble & Bumble one and my cousin recommended Josie Maran's version of her mist, but damn they're $$$.

Then I browsed around for DIY ones. Cool thing is it cost probably less than $5. Haha. And if you buy the items in full quantity, you save a load of dolla dolla billz. Who doesn't like saving?

These are the things you need, my friend.

DIY Sea Salt Hair Mist.
adapted from Free People. Yes, the awesome clothing line.
  1. Hair Gel. Any hair gel would do. You just need a dollop of this.
  2. Natural Oil. I love this Jojoba Oil I got from Trader Joe's. It's 100% natural and it's 100% well, Jojoba Oil. The fragrant's pretty mild. I use this oil for my face and cuticles.
  3. Fine Ground Sea Salt. It must be Sea Salt. You can't use your regular table salt.
  4. Plain ol' H2O, lukewarm. Some people use Rose Water, which I've yet to find. They said they go to a Middle Eastern Market. I need to find one!
  5. A Spray Bottle (pictured later. It's Teal. Yay)
  6. optional: you can add any essence you love. I've read people put lavender, rose, citrus, coconut... Whatever floats your boat :)

hey, there's a mermaid on the salt bottle!
So as for measurement:
  • For 8 oz of Water = 1 tsp of Fine Ground Sea Salt + 1/2 tsp of Natural Oil + a dollop of Gel.

Mix all ingredients in to the Spray Bottle and shake until well mixed. Make sure you shake your bottle before spraying any time you want to use the mist. Spray away and crunch (optional)

Sea Salt dries your hair like nobody's business. Hence the oil in the ingredients to moisture your hair. I wouldn't recommend using it everyday to prevent dryness to your awesome hair. You can use this mist on damp or dry hair.

Fortunately, my hair is naturally wavy. I just need to spray some to my hair just to enhance that beach hair of mine. But I do need trim, badly.

Make sure you condition your hair regularly :)

Well I hope this would cure your (or mine?) beach blues.

Links I Love Sunday

Sunday Sunday. Man, the week goes by so quickly. Sometimes I just don't get it. It felt like I just posted links I love like yesterday. Damn.

Any hizzle, here are the things that amused me over the week.
  • One of my favorite blogger, Gala, shared her tips on having that beauty sleep. After having a rough call back (I got called in for a case at 1.42 AM after only having 2 hours of sleep, and left the hospital at 5 AM, got only 2.5 hours of sleep and then work til 5.30 PM that day. Damn) and having problems falling asleep because my brain won't shut up, I read this article and did some of the things she suggested. I sprayed some yummy honey vanilla pillow mist, played some hypnosis app on my phone, had the air on, ate some bread and finally fell asleep like 45 minutes after I shut my eyes. AND I'm one of those people who have no problem on sleeping. I guess when your mind is just running 100 mph, no matter how tired your body is, sometimes you just can't sleep :(

  • Ringling Bros Circus is in town for the weekend in my area, and after watching this video (I couldn't even watch the video on its whole entirety), I vow not to watch any Circus that involves any animals whatsoever. I'm planning to join PETA on doing a silent protest today and tomorrow after work. My cousin did it while the Circus was in LA and she did it on the first show in Ontario (my area). Go Lisa Go. I'm an animal lover, especially now having a dog, I get really sensitive when I see abused animals. I cringed and sometimes cry when I see dogs or cats get ran over and died in the streets. Please, if you have a pet, watch them. Don't let them run loose and out of your sight. My mom one time, ignorantly left the front door open (I was at work) and Chimichanga ran loose. 1 hour later she realized that Chimmy was gone and started freaking out. Luckily Chimmy is a friendly dog and he was just hanging out with my neighbor who has a Pomeranian too that was fortunately just chillin' in front of his house. You don't know how upset and disappointed I was at my mom. Urgh. Never again.

  • One of my BFF, Gaby, did a photo shoot with my buddy photographer, Ollie, from A Sight Of Love. Super fierce. If only Ollie can do a photo shoot of us while we're in NYC. Oh the possibilities.
  • My goal in life is to play with baby pandas. Supa Kawaii.
  • Umm, hello, Iron Man. This sexy man is soooo fierce.
  • Read this article about Kate Upton, that sexy Sports Illustrated Model. Thoughts? I think it's berserk. She is sexy. Not fat.
  • and of course, we can all relate to this video above.
my fav scene from 21 Jump St. Via

hope you all have a great week ahead.

xo,

Sunday Confession

Forgive me for I have sin...
  • Channing Tatum, you are one HOT MOFO. After seeing your fine ass tush on The Vow, glued my eyes on your 6 pack on She's the Man, and watching you work your nerdiness on 21 Jump St, and thank God I have not seen Magic Mike yet (that can be an issue), I have decided that I'm one of your biggest fan. If only you can come everyday and clean my house... or rub my back... Hm.

  • And you too, Robert Downey Jr. Gosh you are SOOO FIERCE. From Iron Man to Sherlock Holmes. Drool. Seriously, if I see you in person, I would be star Stark, I mean struck.

  • I seriously CAN NOT wait for NYC. Gosh, can it be Aug 1st yet?!?!?!? I could care less about SoCal right now... Sorry Mother Cali.
  • As much as I love Animals, I'm still not over beef. I vow one day to become Vegetarian again, but when the heat is up, what's better than a cold bottle of Beer and an awesome charbroiled Burger? OMG I'm hungry.
Those are my confessions.

Friday's Letters

Dear my baby sister in Colorado, I thank God that you were NOT affected by the shooting. You were in my mind the whole day at work. Sorry that I couldn't get to you soon enough. Glad to know that you're okay. Especially when you told me that it was your favorite movie theater to go to when you lived in Aurora.

Dear Pillow, thanks for understanding me and for loving me and just for being you. You are awesome. I can't wait to see you tomorrow and we get to chill. Can we do cheap date aka pizza and netflix? It's that time of the month, you know. Cue the PMS.

Dear Co-Workers, thanks for helping me out when I was really, really, tired from that late call-back case and tolerating my mood and fatigue of being a zombie at work with only 2.5 hours of sleep and powered by caffeine and sugar (bad combo, yo). And thanks for helping me when I was at the verge of crying (thanks for PMS, being Pissed Off and still fatigued) when I found out that I almost had to stay over for a Neuro case.

Dear Chimichanga, please, please, please stop barking. You're out of control. I love you though. PS: You really do need deep teeth cleaning. Why is it so damn expensive and WHY do you attack me all the time I try to brush your teeth? I need help.

Dear (literally the real) Pillow. Thanks for keeping up with my drool. I've been really, really tired.

Dear (old & new) Readers, thanks for keeping up with the Bolu (i'm no fan of Kardashian whatsoever). I promise to do a food entry soon. If only I had more days off. Gah.

Dear Hot & Spicy Oriental Ramen, thanks for making my stomach miserable during that late case I got called back for, and making me have diarrhea (hello people) once I got home, making me only sleep for 2.5 hours and head to work again. Damn. Yet, you are soooo deliciously spicy.

Dear Sleep, I really need to catch up with you. I miss you a lot.

Pray, Live and Love

from here

As I woke up this morning, I saw a thread on my facebook page regarding a shooting incident that happened in Aurora, Colorado earlier morning today at The Dark Knight Rises, Batman movie premier. I was in a hurry to get ready for work, didn't get the chance to read the article.

Driving to work, listening to the radio, I heard a glimpse of the news about the shooting. My heart was, "ugh."

While I was in a Neuro case, during extubation time, the anesthesiologist and the CRNA & SRNA were talking about this tragedy and one said that the shooter claimed to the police that he's The Joker. I was like, "wth is this guy thinking?" Then one of them said that the shooter was an alumni from UCR who studied Neuroscience and was taking his PhD in the same subject. Then, I was like, "Damn, he must be local."

As I got home and I immediately passed out on my bed (I had a rough 2 days at work), then woke up and started reading huffington post & abc news about the shooting, my heart sank. I became very nauseated. This tragedy is sickening. Nowhere in this world is safe anymore. I guess now you can't just go out and think that you'll be fine and dandy. Who wants to live cautiously and be aware all the time, not being able to enjoy that time and being paranoid that something bad and scary is gonna happen? Damn. This guy ruin the whole moment. But who knows what was going in that dude's mind. I refuse to live in fear.

I'm sending multiple prayers across to the families and victims of this Aurora Shooting. From what I've known, 2 people from my community, Indonesian Seventh-Day Adventists, who resides in Colorado, were victims in that massacre. I probably don't personally know them, but it's still a shock to me.

Despite whatever tragedy that's going on, there are people who will still make fun and joke around about this sad situation, but I refuse. I rather Pray. Pray really hard for me, my family and friends and for other people in general. I rather Live. Live like it's my last day. Quoting the most overuse statement of this era, You Only Live Once. Live to the fullest. I rather Love. Love myself more, love my family and friends and pets more, and Love other people as well.

No matter what religion you are, please pray for the people affected by this tragedy. I'm thanking God for every breath that I breathe and the every second that He gave to me to live. I'm praying for the shooter as well. May justice do its business.

Oh and tell your family and friends that you Love them. You can never get enough of it. You will never know when is the last time you'll express such feelings to them. The more, the better.

love,

Public Announcement and We Need Your Help.

So some of you may have known, I did a mission trip back in March with the group Global Medical Brigades with the students from University of California San Diego. The current president for this year, Brittanie, emailed me today saying thanks for supporting and serving with them this year for the community in Honduras.

Anyways, they're in need for Nurses and especially Physicians who can come and volunteer their time for 1 week to serve the needy people in Honduras. Next year during Spring Break for USCD, they will fly and provide medical needs for Honduras. Rumor has it, it may switch to Nicaragua. Either or, they'll be serving the people in need.

Here I attach the email she sent to me,

Hi you guys! Hope you're both having the most amazing summer!

First, thank you both for all of your hard work being nurses on the brigade and your continued commitment to the org even after it was all over. I'm taking over as president for this coming year and am looking for medical professionals to come along with us. Right now, I have a few nurses who have shown interest (because nurses are awesome), but we are in dire need of physicians. Below is sort of a summary email that I've been sending out to people who have mentioned wanting to come with for next year. You can pick and choose which parts of it you may want to include but it'd be really great if you could spread the word and help us out! Say, cost of the trip might not be necessary to mention until later haha.

Sending my love your way,
Britt

Basically, we are the UCSD chapter of Global Medical Brigades which is under the
umbrella organization Global Brigades. It is a 501(c)3 non-profit and
works in under served, rural communities outside of Honduras' capital
city, Tegucigalpa. The program has been well established in the
communities that we work in with people in that community expecting to
see a student-led clinic every 4-6 months.

It is a 1 week trip to Honduras, from March 24th to March 31st, 2013
(UCSD's spring break).  There are a few days dedicated to travel time,
in-country prep, and local cultural activities such as working alongside

community members in one of Global Brigades other projects like latrine
building or construction work on sites of future community centers.
There are 3 days working in a very rural area providing medical and
dental care (dentists provided) to the local families, alongside 2
Honduran physicians.

Normally, nurses are in charge of triage and help with taking patients'
symptoms and vitals like blood pressure, blood glucose, weight, etc.
Responsibilities also include organizing students, making sure they are
doing the vitals correctly, and helping with any patients who may be be
very ill, have trouble breathing, or scared.
Physicians handle consultations and may refer patients needing further assistance to hospitals in the city.
Most patients generally
suffer from heart disease, migraines, asthma, and muscle pains due to
poor nutrition, unsanitary conditions, and hard labor for the men
working in the fields.

The trip typically costs around $1500-$1600 depending on the price of
flight tickets. This price includes absolutely everything on your trip
except for souvenirs and snacks you may want to purchase from local
vendors. Half of the money pays for the flight there which is typically
close to $750. We recommend that you book with us, so as to get a good
group rate, and it's easier to organize travel, but its not necessary.
The rest of the money is dedicated to food (3 meals a day, plus snacks),

transportation (pick up/drop off at airport, travel to clinic and
cultural sites), security (we have 2 police officers with us at all
times, and an addition 2-3 military personnel on brigade days and to
guard the compound where we stay), and dorming.

No foreign language is necessary. The patients speak only Spanish, but
nurses from the last 2 years have had little to no background in the
language. Most of the undergraduate students have studied Spanish in
school, and some of the undergraduate students and in-country organizers

are bilingual and can help you at any time, but using hand and body
motions to communicate has been essential. I've also noticed that you
really only need to remember a few key phrases and the rest you can ask.

We serve close to 1,000 patients over those 3 days so you can expect to
work hard, but its truly humbling to see what sort of conditions they
must face and the impact that we make.

We are currently in the process of creating a new website but you can
see some pictures and general info here: http://sddo47.wix.com/ucsdgmb
And you can find more information at the global brigades national

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns whatsoever :)

Best,
Brittanie
You can read my post about my mission trip here and here.

If you have any friends or family or colleagues who are Nurses or Physicians Assistance or Physicians (Residents included) interested in doing a Medical Missionary, they can contact me through my blog or email me at bolubyrima@gmail.com. I'm thinking most likely I will do this again (if time and money permits), especially with this group of students. They were awesome and eager to learn. Most of them are Pre-Med students. 1 student was even an Italian Major (Hi, Mauricio!) Honestly, it was one of the best things I ever done in my life. Not only for the people of Honduras, but also for myself. It gave me this nice happiness that I've never had. Like I made a difference in someone's life.

Please please please do share and spread the word.

PS: This Medical Missionary is non-denominational. It's purely Medical. And learning. And just being a great human being.

xo,
Rima

Reminiscing Wednesday

So I was showering, and playing a 90s playlist on my Spotify app. Then I had an epiphany. A new segment. Reminiscing Wednesday was born. Shower Thinking is very effective, my friend.

This will be the segment where I (or you or us) can share a thing or two from the past that just makes you smile when it pops up in your memory.

I present you...

Well, like I said, I was showering and the 90s playlist was singing to me, and this song came.

I literally was like, "HOLY CRAP! THIS SONG IS OLD!" and start singing it wholeheartedly while conditioning my hair.

As I did my research, according to wikipedia, this song came out in 1996.

1996. Where was I? For sure still spreading my swag in Jakarta, Indonesia. I was in 6th grade. The time where my sisters and I were enjoying our SENIOR year in Elementary school. Hahaha... Our last year wearing White & Red uniforms. The year where I played rough with boys and made fun of the 5th graders. The golden days. I remember this song was pretty big at the time as well. And so was the Backstreet Boys (we'll talk about them specifically, someday...)

It's funny something so simple as a song can trigger good (or bad) memories.

Til the next RW!

bunny kisses,
Rima

Link Up: Me, Myself & I

Hello Tuesday. You are here again. I love you because you are my usual day off, but today you were not. I had to work til 2, to help out. It was nice to knowing that you're working but leaving early. Haha. And I decided to bake. Yes. Bake. The recipe will be up soon (but in another blog... as a guest post. YIPPEE)

Anyways, my buddy Evani from simplyevani.com, did a link-up and I decided to join... Maybe you and I will get to know more about myself, hehe.

this link up is hosted by My Beautiful, Crazy LifeWhispering Sweet Nothings, Confessions of a graphic design student, Framed Frosting,  For Love of a Cupcake, Life of the Wife.

so the 3rd Tuesday of the Month, they will ask 5 questions about yourself and you get to answer. In a way, self-reflection? Let's get to it.

1 - WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST PHOBIA?

I have several. Certain flying & jumping insects (READ: damn you Cockroach!) I had many encounters with cockroaches when I was living in Indonesia. One time when I was in high school, I was in a hurry and grab a pair of whatever black shoes I could find, put it on, and hopped on to my car. The drive to school is about 1 hour. Anyways, as I said goodbye to my dad & driver, I hopped out and started walking... Till I felt something moving beneath my right foot. I was like, "wth is this?" Starting to freak out, I removed my foot from my shoe and saw this HUGE cockroach fly out of that damn shoe!!!! I HAD A FREAKIN ROACH IN MY SHOE THE WHOLE HOUR!!! I screamed like nobody's business!!! Another encounter was when I had to grab something in my room, on top of my desk. So there I was, minding my own business, grabbing that something and next thing you knew, A HUGE ROACH flew towards me off my desk. I screamed like a chick and yelled at my maid's husband to kill that damn sucker. I was paranoid all night sleeping in my room. URGH. But when I was in Honduras, I faced my fear. I hate jumping insects, but anyways, I slept in the top bunk, right next to a fellow Brigade, Ashley (who apparently hates insects too). Our beds are against the wall. So the first morning we were there, while everyone is slowly waking up, I felt Ashley moving like crazy. And she squealed. I woke up and went, "AAAAAH". Next to her is a HUGE grasshopper on the wall, staring at her. She's freakin out, I'm like, "EFF ME" and the other girls in the dorm room were like, "AAAHHH". Ash is not moving at all, I was like, "great... I have to get this sucker." I grabbed a plastic bag, and it took me like 5 minutes to pump up and convinced myself to catch this green man, and with my hands under the bag, I cupped that sucker in my hand, tied the bag quickly, while feeling that thing jumping around, told another person to take this damn bag out and release this little green thing out in the wild. At least, he survived. So did Ash & I. Damn.

2 - IF YOU COULD RE-LIVE ANY DAY OF YOUR LIFE, WHAT WOULD IT BE & WHY?

Man, there's so many memories, but I guess I can name a few. Or one. How about one. Or two. Well let's go. One is probably graduating Nursing school. For the first time, I really can feel how proud my parents and grandma was seeing me up in the podium getting pinned. I know they're proud with me no matter what, but this time I truly felt it. The joy was in the air. Two is when Rob & I had our first, ehm, kiss. I was single for a long ass time until Rob & I started going out. That day/night was awesome, we caught up with our lives at the beach with our church Youth group (we were good friends in the beginning, but then he kinda disappear in my life [long story]) and he dropped me off home. Next thing you know, we kissed, and I had the biggest smile of all time. Once I got in to my room, I danced with Chimmy (true story). We did the waltz and fist pump. The following day we had our first date, watching my other Robert (Downey Jr) doing awesomeness, Iron Man. 4 + years, we're going strong, stronger than ever. (SORRY LUGU FOR SHARING THIS STORY BUT I HAD TO)

3 - IF YOU COULD CHOOSE TO STAY A CERTAIN AGE FOREVER,  WHAT AGE WOULD IT BE?

14. One of the best times of my life. I had all of my sisters (Cha-Cha Family forever) with me, my first boyfriend (who is now married to one of my sisters, and they're having a baby coming. Confused, yet?), school was awesome and we were all popular. Junior High Rules. I had no stress about paying bills, working like a maniac or worrying about the future. All I had to figure out was how to get good grades, how to fight PMS and Zits, and be an awesome girlfriend and how to watch the Backstreet Boys in person (this, never happened in my teens. Not until my LATE 20s)

4 - WHICH CELEBRITY DO YOU GET MISTAKEN FOR?

Haha... Lots of my patients say that I look like Flo, the girl from Progressive Insurance. Seriously?

5 - WHAT SONGS ARE INCLUDED IN THE SOUNDTRACK OF YOUR LIFE?

  • Fix You - Coldplay
  • Charlie Brown - Coldplay
  • Sparks - Coldplay
  • In My Place - Coldplay
  • Yellow - Coldplay (see a trend here?)
  • The One - Backstreet Boys
  • Collide - Howie Day
  • Sweet Disposition - Temper Trap
  • Simple Kind of Life - No Doubt
  • Sunday Morning - No Doubt
  • Rhythm of Love - Plain White T's
  • Viva Forever - Spice Girls
  • Your Song - Elton John/Ewan McGregor/Ellie Golding
  • I Got a Feeling - the Black Eyed Peas

Well, I hope y'all get to know a little bit more about me. Haha. Please don't feed me roaches. Yuck.

Moonbeams,
